Horizons of Hope: A Toolkit for Catholic Parishes on Palliative Care

Horizons of Hope is a resource developed by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. It is intended to support a small group of people learning and having discussions together. A series of modules are designed to: (1) Empower and educate participants by addressing questions about palliative care, dying, death, suffering, accompaniment, and bereavement in a holistic fashion. (2) Present high-quality content that explores how palliative care is understood from a perspective of Catholic teaching and medical expertise. (3) Facilitate meaningful conversations together to help a group or a family become a companionate community.

Understanding Palliative Care

Understanding Palliative Care was inspired by a public education module developed by the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care. A 20-minute interactive module will provide participants with opportunity to: (1) Learn more about what palliative care is and the support it offers. (2) Hear from people who have personally benefitted from palliative care and learn how palliative care professionals and community members can help relieve the symptoms and stress of living with a serious illness.
